The mind is a challenging thing to control. It keeps us up when we need to go to sleep. It forms habits that are incredibly hard to break. It lets us zone out when we really need to pay attention. This is why so many people to turn hypnotherapy as a way to make changes in the mind and the body.

Hypnotherapy is a form of guided relaxation that uses imagery and suggestion to make subtle changes in the mind. Through hypnotherapy, patients are able to become more aware than they usually are and their awareness can be focused on a specific thought, memory, or behavior. Sometimes that thought or memory might be blocked by the subconscious. Often, the behavior is one that the patient no longer wants to do, like smoke or overeat.

     1. It’s not like on TV.

If you think you are going to be hypnotized and then bark like a dog, you are grossly mistaken. Hypnotherapy is not like the ridiculousness that is shown on TV and in the movies. Stage hypnosis is entertaining, but it is not realistic. Your hypnotherapist won’t wear a silly hat or cape and you won’t be put to sleep and awakened with a snap of the fingers.

     2. You won’t fall asleep.

In fact, you will be in control of yourself and completely awake. In hypnosis, you are relaxed, but not sleeping. You will be able to hear and understand everything that the therapist says and you will also remember the suggestions, too.

     3. It won’t work overnight.

You will not come out of hypnosis and immediately stop smoking. That just doesn’t happen. Instead, you will recognize the suggestions that the hypnotherapist gave you and you will begin to notice your cravings for smoking and learn to avoid them. It takes time to develop a habit and it takes time to break a habit. Hypnotherapy just gives you the support you need to break the habit and build a new one. You might have to have more than one session before you begin to see benefits from it.

     4. You can use online hypnosis.

Why take time out of your day to travel to an office and visit a hypnotherapist when you can do it from the comfort of your home? Instead of leaving your home or missing work, you can get hypnosis audios online. This is the ideal place for hypnosis because you can be truly relaxed in your own home and you don’t have to worry about trusting someone you don’t know.

     5. You usually experience it every day.

You do not have to be hypnotized by an expert to experience hypnosis. People actually enter into hypnotic trances a few times per day. If you have ever read a book and not remembered what you’ve read or driven somewhere and don’t remember driving there, you’ve been in a hypnotic trance. This is a natural experience and hypnotherapists understand how to bring you there without you having to think about it.
