Deciding How To Best Remember Someone

It’s never easy grieving for a loved one when they pass. You go through a whole range of emotions, including denial, anger, and eventually, acceptance. However, after the sadness has subsided, you can always plan how to best remember your loved one. For many people, having something like a memorial for their loved one can offer comfort to them during this difficult time. It can also be a place for you to visit if you want to be somewhere that makes you feel closer to the person that has passed.

In this article, you will find a few suggestions on how you can best remember someone.

Columbarium Niche

A columbarium is a place where people can store their loved ones’ cremation urns in niches (alcoves). Relatives can visit the columbarium when they want to pay their respects. Depending on what you feel that your loved one would want, the niche can be part of an extravagant, decorative structure or a simple room with shelves. It can also either be indoors or outdoors. There are experienced columbarium manufacturers who specialize in creating bespoke and durable designs, so whether you want the urn to be on display behind clear glass, or hidden behind a metal door, they can make it custom to your wants.

Gravestone

The most common type of memorial is a gravestone, and if your loved one would prefer to have a traditional burial when they pass, then this may be the better option. A gravestone, or headstone, will mark where a person is buried and can include a personal message if you wish to include one, along with the typical information like the person’s name, date of birth, etc. You can select the stone, shape, and design of the gravestone, although marble and limestone are more ideal for carving messages. You can also include additional ornaments to accompany your chosen gravestone.

Planting a Tree

Some people like to plant a tree in someone’s memory, and you can go a step further by planting a tree with cremated ashes. If your loved one was fond of nature and wanted to return to the earth, as they say, then this can be a unique way to remember them how they would have wanted. Watch the tree grow, and remember your loved one every time you see it.

Memorial Bench

Chances are you will have seen a few memorial benches in some of your local parks, commemorating a late relative. The nice thing about these is that they can be placed in your loved one’s favorite spot, whether that was in the shade of the trees or overlooking the duck pond. If you find graveyards rather morbid places, then visiting your loved one’s bench could be a nice alternative when you want to pay your respects. Include a personalized inscription of your choosing, so that passers-by will also be able to pay their respects.

No matter how you decide to commemorate your loved one, as long as you do so in a way that befits their character and allows you to remember the happier times, that’s all that matters.
