Top ski resorts to hit around the world this winter

Eager for winter to begin so you can go skiing or boarding again? Make this season one where you discover an amazing ski resort somewhere else in the world. Below, we’ll talk about three of our favourites.

1) Sunshine Village, Alberta, Canada

Want to dive straight into the pow earlier this year? Alberta is where you’ll want to go, as this Canadian province is infamous for its long winters (as we write this, it’s snowing in September, so…).

At average, top-tier resorts such as Lake Louise and Sunshine Village, opening dates occur as early as early November, making it a great spot to go if you have an uncontrollable urge to start carving the slopes this year.

The latter is a fine choice, as its main lodge is located 7,000 feet above sea level. With its highest chair taking riders above 10,000 feet, amazing natural snow depths are virtually assured by the time Christmas rolls around.

With terrain ranging from a well-tended bunny hill to startling steeps in areas like Delirium Dive, skiers and boarders of all abilities are catered to at this snow resort.

After a busy day on the hill, you might be so tired that you may lack the energy to head into Banff to sample some of their famous nightlife. That doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop, though – instead, fire up your laptop and play some blackjack on one of many online gaming sites on the web.

To maximize your efforts, be sure to try to reach 21, as getting there assures victory and pays 3:2 in most games. When your mates come back from town, it is possible you’ll earn as much money as they drank up.

2) Meribel, France

If you’re all about the parties, though, there is no better place on Earth to go skiing or boarding than in Meribel. Situated in the French Alps, these slopes once played host to Olympians during the 1992 Albertville Olympics, so you can be assured of the quality of the skiing that can be had here.

If you somehow get tired of what this hill has to offer, it is linked to adjacent resorts, giving you enough lines to keep you happy for a week or longer. When the queues at the base start getting hairy in the afternoon, you are faced with two choices – stay up high on the mountain where the pistes are steep, or get your apres-ski started early.

The latter choice is the one most make, as Meribel has amazing options on hill, and the town has many more as the evening moves along. Stay safe and have fun!

3) Niseko, Hokkaido, Japan

Live in Asia and think that snow skiing and boarding are sports that will have to wait until you get home? Don’t deprive yourself any longer, as the Japanese island of Hokkaido is home to some world class hills.

Of these, Niseko is easily the best place to travel, as its glade skiing, heavy annual snowfall, and opportunities to sample local culture make it a must-visit for snow sports enthusiasts.
